Hi, I'm Tiaan McKinnel.
I grew up in rural Central Otago, where spending time outdoors was simply part of everyday life. I started endurance sports at the beginning of high school and have now been involved in trail running, adventure racing, rogaining, navigation, and endurance challenges for over 13 years.
Alongside my practical experience, I completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Sport, Exercise and Health) through Otago Polytechnic. In 2025, I was fortunate enough to win both the New Zealand and Australian Rogaining Championships alongside my brother Jonty. I have just spent my last 2 years working in a running specific store, which has also improved my shoe, nutrition and gear knowledge.
Over the years I've learnt a lot through training, racing, and spending time in the outdoors. Through my coaching, I aim to share that experience with others, whether they're preparing for their first event, tackling an ultramarathon, learning to navigate, or taking on a major adventure.
I firmly believe the hills, trails, and backcountry are for everyone. My goal is to help people enjoy the journey, challenge themselves, and achieve things they may not have thought possible.
